Plan each house call before you leave the office

Every request is logged with its location and supplies, visits are grouped by area, and a return trip starts from the last one's notes.

The situation

House calls set your practice apart, and they are easy to under-plan. A thirty-minute visit at a patient's home can quietly take half a day once drive time, a forgotten supply and a collision with the clinic schedule are counted.

An office visit has a room and a supply closet waiting. A house call has neither, so what the visit needs has to be known before you leave. Scheduled like an office visit, a house call becomes a guess, and a few wrong guesses in a week push the whole schedule late.

Steps

  1. Log each request as a Task when it comes in Use the patient-page Task button and put the location and the reason for the visit in Description, since a wound check needs different supplies than a new patient home assessment. Add a house call clinic Tag, which an Admin creates once in Task Settings, so every request can be found together.
  2. List the supplies as a checklist Select the checklist control in Description and add one item per supply or piece of equipment, such as blood draw supplies or the EKG machine. Type @ inside an item when a teammate prepares it.
  3. Group visits by area and block the time Filter Tasks by the house call tag to see every open request together, and schedule visits in the same part of town back to back. Book them in time set aside for house calls, apart from office visits, so one that runs long does not delay the clinic.
  4. Check the list before you leave the office Open the Task and check off each item as it goes in the bag. A missing supply gets caught at the office, not on the patient's doorstep, and the Task stays open until the visit is done.
  5. Write down the logistics after the visit Add a comment on home access, parking, what worked and what to bring next time, then mark the Task Done. Before the next visit to that home, with Tasks open in the side panel, open Task history from the dropdown beside the patient's name and read it first.

The outcome

House calls stay a real advantage instead of a source of constant schedule strain. Planning happens with lead time instead of that morning, supply gaps are caught before a wasted trip, and a return visit to the same home starts from what you learned the first time.
