## The situation

Your last patient left 15 minutes ago and six charts are still open. So you sit back down and rebuild each visit from memory, going back and forth between the scribe's drafts and the EHR, and you leave an hour and a half later than you meant to.

This is not a discipline problem. By late afternoon the details of a morning visit are fuzzy, so a note that takes 2 minutes while the visit is fresh takes 5 to 8 from memory. Saving every note for the end of the day turns a few minutes of charting into a pile you face when you are most tired.

## Steps

1. **Start the scribe on the right patient** Open Heidi or Freed in Tabflows beside the Elation chart. In Heidi, find the patient before recording begins.
2. **Sign each note before the next patient** Review the scribe's draft while the patient gets ready to leave, make your edits in Elation and sign it. A note finished in the minute between patients needs no rebuilding at 5 PM.
3. **Check for open notes before you go** Set View Queue For to Self, select Triage queue on Elation Practice Home, and ask Sidekick to open Draft Notes. Triage queue appears once it is turned on for your account. Select a returned item link to open that queue card in Elation, and finish anything still in draft.
4. **Clear what cannot wait for tomorrow** Reply now to any message that needs an answer before morning. For the rest, create a Task assigned to yourself with Due on set to tomorrow, so it surfaces in My Tasks when you start the day.
5. **Put the check on a schedule** In My chat, write a note to yourself to check Draft Notes, select the caret beside Send and choose Custom. Set the time your last visit usually ends and a repeat pattern for the days you see patients, then select Schedule, then Send. The note shows up in My chat at that time, even when your browser is closed.

## The outcome

Notes are finished during the day, while each visit is fresh, and the check before you go confirms nothing is waiting. You close your laptop shortly after the last patient leaves, not because you became more disciplined, but because the charting stopped piling up for later.

Hey Tabflows, show my Draft Notes from the Elation queue so I can finish them before I leave.
