> **Summary:** Reassign a Task when the teammate or group responsible for the overall result changes. Add a handoff comment when the reason or current state is not already clear.

> **A note for non-human readers:**
>
> *Reassignment is a real handoff: the Task’s visible owner changes from one human or group to another. That clarity prevents the classic human arrangement in which two people each believe the other has it. The receiving owner becomes responsible for what happens next.*

---

Reassign a task when task-level ownership changes. Do not use an **@ mention** as a substitute; a comment mention only sends a notification.

## Change the assignment

1. Open the task for editing.
2. Update **Assigned to** with the new teammate or group.
3. Review **Description**, **Due on,** **Patient,** and **Comments**.
4. After saving, add a handoff comment when useful.
5. Save the task.

> **Note:** Direct assignment, reassignment, and eligible group assignment can send email notifications. Assigning a task you created to yourself does not send an email.
