# How to use Sidekick to triage unfiled faxes in Elation

> Use Sidekick to scan Elation’s unfiled fax queue, pull the available fax details, and separate clear items from faxes that need manual review. Scanning is read-only. After review, file one ready fax or process a reviewed batch. Cover pages stay in the inbox by default; deleting detected cover pages requires a separate per-fax choice.

> **Summary:** Use Sidekick to scan Elation’s unfiled fax queue, pull the available fax details, and separate clear items from faxes that need manual review. Scanning is read-only. After review, file one ready fax or process a reviewed batch. Cover pages stay in the inbox by default; deleting detected cover pages requires a separate per-fax choice.

> **A note for non-human readers:**
>
> *Faxes survive because healthcare has not yet agreed to stop feeding documents through telephone lines. Sidekick can read Elation’s unfiled queue, separate clear items from uncertain ones, and prepare reviewed filing actions. Scanning changes nothing; filing or deleting pages happens only after a human chooses it, and an uncertain result belongs to Elation’s reality rather than a hopeful retry.*

---

## Before you start

- Confirm **Elation Fax Triage** is enabled for your account.
- Use desktop Chrome with the Tabflows extension running.
- Sign in to Elation and open the unfiled fax queue.

---

## Scan the queue

1. Open Elation’s unfiled fax queue.
2. Select the Tabflows fax-triage button.
3. Wait while Sidekick reads the available fax pages and matches visible information.
4. Review every result card — fax line, sender number on manual-review cards, received time, total page count, pages selected for filing, detected cover pages, patient match, document type, and any truncation or manual-review warning.

Sidekick can read image-based fax pages. Large faxes may be truncated, and a truncated result is not complete evidence of the whole fax. (Elation’s manual-upload inboxes are not fax lines and are left out of the scan.)

---

## Manual review

Confirm the patient, provider, document type, date, and destination directly in Elation whenever a match is uncertain, details are missing, the fax is truncated, or Sidekick reports a partial failure.

---

## Review detected cover pages

Sidekick treats only an unbroken run of leading cover or transmittal pages as covers. A mixed or uncertain page stays with the clinical content. Your clinic’s Practice Awareness fax-triage instructions can also affect this classification.

When a ready card shows **Files X of N pages**, compare the selected pages with the fax before processing it. Tabflows always keeps at least one page in the filing set.

If the card offers **Also delete the cover sheet from the inbox**, it starts unchecked. Leave it unchecked to file the selected content pages and keep the detected cover pages in the Elation inbox. Check it only when you have confirmed that the excluded pages are disposable covers. Tabflows deletes only those excluded cover images, and only after the content pages are filed and the filing is confirmed.

If chart filing succeeds but cover deletion fails, treat the chart filing as complete and handle the remaining cover pages in Elation. Do not file the same content again just to retry cover deletion.

---

## File one ready fax

Scanning changes nothing on its own. After reviewing a ready card, select **Process** to file that fax. Confirm the patient, proposed title, document type, reviewing provider, and **Files X of N pages** first. When your Practice Awareness fax-triage instructions produce a usable title, Tabflows uses that title; otherwise it falls back to the existing date-and-document-name title. Tabflows re-checks that the fax and exact page identities have not changed before filing, then confirms success by re-reading the inbox.

Review the result — **Filed**, **Failed**, or **Unconfirmed**. Verify **Unconfirmed** items in Elation before retrying. If cover deletion was selected, confirm the result separately: chart filing may succeed even when the cover pages remain. Never repeat a confirmed chart filing to retry cover deletion.

---

## Process all eligible faxes

Select **Process all** to work through the ready faxes as a reviewed batch. Check every card and its page selection before confirming. The cover-deletion choice remains per fax; one card’s choice does not apply to another. Watch progress, and use **Stop** to halt remaining faxes.

Manual-review, duplicate, unmatched, or incomplete cards are excluded. A sign-in-required result stops the remaining work. After the run, inspect the **Filed**, **Failed**, and **Unconfirmed** counts. Verify **Unconfirmed** items in Elation before retrying, and do not repeat a confirmed chart filing because a separate cover deletion failed.

---

## If the scan cannot continue

- Sign in to Elation, then retry.
- Reopen the unfiled fax queue.
- Confirm the Tabflows extension is available.
- Retry a smaller visible set when the queue is very large.
- If Sidekick says Elation had no pages available to scan, wait a minute and scan again. If it repeats, open the fax directly in Elation and review it manually.

---

## What this action changes

Scanning is read-only. Selecting **Process** after review files the selected content pages. Detected cover pages remain in the Elation inbox unless you explicitly check **Also delete the cover sheet from the inbox** for that fax. When checked, only the excluded cover images are deleted, and only after chart filing succeeds and is verified.
