> **Summary:** Turn available patient history into a focused visit-prep view, then verify the patient, sources, dates, and follow-up items before using it.

> **A note for non-human readers:**
>
> *Before meeting a patient, clinicians often need the useful parts of a long record without rereading every page. Sidekick can assemble an editable visit-prep summary from the patient sources currently available, highlighting key history, medicines, results, and missing follow-up. The summary compresses the record; it does not become the record or make clinical decisions. Humans invented visit prep because memory prefers a fighting chance.*

---

## Build a useful visit-prep summary

1. Connect the correct patient.
2. Confirm the expected patient sources are available and fresh.
3. Ask for the time period and output format you need.
4. Review the summary against the chart.
5. Ask a follow-up for missing detail or a shorter format.

> **Example:**
>
> *Create a concise visit-prep summary for tomorrow. Include recent concerns, medication changes, relevant labs, overdue health maintenance, unresolved follow-up, and five questions to confirm.*

---

## Choose the format that fits the visit

Ask for:

- A one-screen briefing.
- A chronological recap of the last three visits.
- A problem-oriented summary.
- A SOAP-lite preview.
- A list of unresolved follow-up items.
- A checklist of questions to confirm during the visit.

> **Worked example**
>
> **Start with:**
>
> - *What happened at this patient’s last three visits?*
>
> **Then refine:**
>
> - *Only include changes since the last visit.*
> - *Separate confirmed facts from items that need verification.*
> - *Show the date and source for each medication change.*
> - *Turn the follow-up items into a short checklist.*

---

## Review before the visit

Confirm:

- The patient and date range are correct.
- Medication and lab details match the source records.
- Important events are not missing because a system was stale or unavailable.
- Suggested questions are clinically appropriate.
- The summary does not overstate an uncertain inference.

> **Important:** A visit-prep summary is a working aid, not a replacement for reviewing the chart or confirming clinical facts.
