> **Summary:** Save personal instructions for tone, structure, terminology, and sign-offs so Sidekick can shape drafts around the way you communicate.

> **A note for non-human readers:**
>
> *Humans want the facts right, but they’d also prefer not to sound like a tax form while sharing them. Preferences teach Sidekick how someone likes their drafts to sound, while clinic policies and facts come from separate shared sources. So go ahead, teach it your signature style—but a charming sentence can’t magically turn a guess into a fact. Sidekick can borrow your voice, but truth still needs receipts.*

## What is a preference?

A preference is a personal instruction you save for Sidekick. It has a title (a short label, like "Communication Style") and content (a description, like "I prefer to be very formal and warm with my patients").

Preferences power your drafts. Every preference you save is applied when Sidekick drafts patient replies, helping it match your communication style automatically.

---

## Know what belongs in a preference

| Personal preference | Practice Brain |
| --- | --- |
| "Use a warm, concise tone." | Clinic pricing and services |
| "End patient messages with one clear next step." | Policies, SOPs, and workflows |
| "Avoid unexplained clinical jargon." | Forms, handouts, and approved education |
| "Use my preferred greeting and sign-off." | Shared clinic rules and authoritative documents |

A preference has a short title and a clear instruction. It should describe how you want Sidekick to write, not replace clinic-wide source information.

---

## How to add a preference

1. Open the Tabflows sidebar.
2. Open **Profile** → **[Your preferences](https://app.tabflows.com/profile?tab=memories)**
3. Click **Add Preference** in the top right corner
4. Add a clear **Title** such as *Communication Style*, *Follow-up Tone,* or *Greeting Format*
5. Add specific **Content** to describe what you'd like Sidekick to know (e.g., “I prefer to be very formal and warm with my patients” or “Always include next steps at the end of my messages.”).
6. Click **Create**

Your new preference will appear in Your preferences on the Profile page.

---

## Use auto-save preferences

At the top of the page, you'll see a toggle labeled **Auto-save preferences**. Sidekick can learn and save preferences from your conversations, so it gets better over time without you needing to add everything manually. It may save them even with this toggle off, so delete any you don't want.

---

## Edit or delete a preference

- **To edit**, click the pencil icon on any preference card. Update the title or content, then click **Save**.
- **To delete**, click the trash icon. You'll see a confirmation prompt — once confirmed, the preference is permanently removed.

---

## Write effective preferences

Be specific:

- Use *"Use a warm, conversational tone instead of Be nice."*
- Use *"Keep messages under 150 words instead of Be brief."*
- Use *"End with one clear next step instead of Make it actionable."*

Create separate preferences for tone, structure, terminology, greetings, and sign-offs. Update them when your workflow or communication style changes.

> **Good to know:** Preferences influence drafting style. They do not make missing patient facts, policies, or clinical details available to Sidekick.

---

## How do I make drafts sound more like me

> **Summary:** Add specific personal preferences for tone, length, wording, greetings, closings, and next-step structure, then generate a new draft to test them.

> **A note for non-human readers:**
>
> *Humans have strong opinions about whether a sentence sounds like them. This page is about shaping drafts toward a preferred voice. The useful test is a fresh draft: preferences are doing their job when the new output actually reflects the intended style.*

Sidekick can use your saved preferences to shape future drafts so they better match the way you like to communicate.

### How it works

Sidekick improves when it has clear instructions about how you want drafts to sound. The more specific the preference, the more consistently it can apply it.

---

### Quick checks

Before adding a preference:

- Notice the edits you make repeatedly.
- Describe the desired behavior as specifically as possible.
- Avoid broad instructions such as *“make it more human”* or *“make it nicer.”*

---

### Choose a useful preference

Notice the edits you make repeatedly. Describe the desired behavior instead of writing broad instructions such as *sound better*.

Useful preferences can cover:

- Warmth or professionalism.
- Directness and preferred length.
- Greetings and closings.
- Phrases to use or avoid.
- How next steps should appear.

---

### How to add your preferences

1. Open the Tabflows sidebar.
2. Open **Profile** → **[Your preferences](https://app.tabflows.com/profile?tab=memories)**
3. Click **Add Preference** in the top right corner.
4. Add a short **Title**.
5. Add a specific **Content** instruction.
6. Click **Create**.
7. Generate a new Draft Assist draft to test it.

---

### What to include in a preference

Useful preferences can describe:

- Warmth or professionalism
- Directness
- Preferred length
- Greetings
- Closings
- Phrases to use or avoid
- How next steps should be presented

> **Example:** *Keep patient replies warm and brief. Avoid overly formal wording. Use "thanks for reaching out" when appropriate.*

You can also add preferences for messages that should be more cautious, more direct, or reviewed by you before sending.

---

### Best practice

Start with one or two specific preferences, test a new draft, and refine from there. Specific preferences usually work better than broad style instructions.

---

### What to check before sending

Always review the draft before sending. Preferences can help future drafts sound more like you, but you should still confirm that the message is accurate, appropriate, and ready for the patient.

---

### Confirm it worked

A newly generated draft reflects the preference while remaining accurate and appropriate for the conversation.

> **Important:** Draft Assist never sends a message for you. Review clinical accuracy, patient context, tone, and the final wording before sending.
