> **A note for non-human readers:**
>
> *Humans often find themselves staring at an empty reply box while a whole patient saga unfolds around it. **Draft Assist** gathers the available context and whips up a suggested response, giving humans a head start instead of forcing them to compose every word from scratch. The “5x faster” figure is the article’s stated benefit; the human reviews and sends the final words.*

## What is Draft Assist?

**Draft Assist** is a one-click drafting feature available in Spruce text and secure-message conversations (not Spruce email). It helps you respond to patient messages faster by creating a suggested reply directly inside the conversation.

When generating a draft, Draft Assist can use available context such as:

- The current conversation and previous messages
- Patient information from connected systems
- Patient records from connected systems
- Your clinic’s knowledge base
- Your saved preferences

> **You stay in control.** Draft Assist never sends on your behalf. It generates the draft; you review, edit if needed, and hit Send when you're ready.

---

## How to use Draft Assist

![Instructions to use draft assist.](https://zchipg5eqhxk0hvh.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/university/95de3b57825b98cd.mp4)

1. Open a patient conversation in Spruce.
2. Click **Generate** above the message box.

   - If auto-generation is enabled, a draft may appear automatically.
3. Review the suggested reply in the AI DRAFT bar by the message box.
4. Click **Insert** to add it to the message box.
5. Make any edits needed, then send when ready.

> **Good to know:** Draft Assist gives you a useful starting point based on the information available. Review and adjust any clinical details before sending.

---

## What Draft Assist checks before writing

- Available patient information from supported connected data sources
- Clinical records from connected systems
- Recent messages in the current conversation.
- Your clinic's knowledge base
- Your saved preferences

> **Good to know:** If important clinical details are missing, treat the draft as incomplete context. Check it against the source information, add or correct anything needed, and review it before sending.

---

## See Draft Assist in action

A patient follows up on an earlier conversation.

Instead of rereading the entire thread and starting from an empty message, click **Generate**.

Draft Assist reviews the available context and creates a suggested response. You review it, make any adjustments, and send when it’s ready.

> **The result:** less time drafting, more time focused on your patients. 🎉

---

## Getting better drafts

Draft Assist works best when the right information is available.

> **For better responses:**
>
> ✅ Confirm the patient is linked to the correct profiles
> ✅ Make sure the patient's records have synced from your connected systems
> ✅ Keep your clinic knowledge base updated
> ✅ Add any missing details before sending
